Battle of the books Iowa High School Battle of the Books

High school students from across the state of Iowa are invited to participate in the Iowa High School Battle of the Books. Form a team of up to 6 students in grades 9-12, talk to Mrs. Wirtz (AHS Teacher Librarian and the coach for all AHS teams) and read the books!

For the 2020-21 school year, we have two Battle of the Books teams. Our first team, All Booked, is a team of seniors who finished 4th overall last year. Our second team, FBI (Friends with Book Intelligence), is a team of juniors/sophomores who also participated last year and finished strong. We are looking forward to another great showing by our teams.

Books and Bagels Goes Virtual

If you are interested in joining Books & Bagels, fill out this form to get reminder emails and the Zoom link for the meetings.

Books and Bagels is a joint project between Ankeny High School, Ankeny Centennial, and Kirkendall Public Library. For the 2020-21 school year, we will be meeting virtually so both hybrid and remote students may participate. First semester the virtual meetings will be held the last Wednesday of the month from 9:30-10:15. Second semester meeting times are yet to be determined because our Wednesday schedule will be changing.

During our virtual meetings, students visit with others about the books they are reading. We do not require everyone to read the same book, rather we share with each other and help build each other’s TBR list! At the end of each meeting, participants place their bagel order. Sherry from Kirkendall delivers the bagels to the two high schools the following morning. Remote students pick up their bagels at Kirkendall the following day.
