Two Ankeny volleyball coaches and AHS alumna to be honored:
Ankeny Community Schools and the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) would like to congratulate Ankeny head volleyball coach Dave Whims, Ankeny assistant volleyball coach Angela Bys and Ankeny alumna Kristin Belzung, who will all be honored at the State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids on November 14.  Read more about their accomplishments here.
AHS Stadium Chairs for Sale by Dance Team

Ankeny Hawk stadium chairs for sale to help raise money for the AHS dance team.  The chairs are $48 each.  They fit virtually any metal or wooden bleacher for more comfortable seating. Made of tough Cordova canvas with a durable steel frame. Maroon canvas with gold Hawk logo. Dimensions: 15.5" x 17" w x 14.5" h. Juniors to take the Iowa Youth Survey 2014

The Ankeny Community School District has agreed to administer the Iowa Youth Survey to students in grades 6, 8, and 11 between September 29 and October 31, 2014.  Directed by the Iowa Department of Public Health in partnership with the Iowa Departments of Education and Human Rights, the survey collects information about Iowa youth in order to better understand their beliefs, values, and decisions about what makes them feel secure, strong, and safe in their communities, schools, and families.  In addition, information is collected about their ideas on alcohol, tobacco, drugs, bullying and harassment, and violence prevention.   Participation in the survey is anonymous and strictly voluntary, and no student is required to fill out the questionnaire.  Please take a few moments to read the attached parent letter for more information.  The letter is also available by visiting

If you do not want your child to participate, simply sign and return the third page to AHS Guidance office (room 2102) by Wednesday, September 24.  Thank you.

PSAT/NMSQT Tests to be Administered October 15, 2014
AHS is pleased to offer the PSAT/NMSQT to juniors and sophomores on Wednesday, October 15.  The PSAT is a voluntary practice test for sophomores and will help prepare them for testing as a juniors.  Taking the PSAT/NMSQT as a junior is the only way a student may enter the National Merit Scholarship competition.  For test prep information go to  A letter of explanation, modified schedule, and registration form will be mailed to all AHS juniors and sophomores.  Registration forms will be accepted in the Guidance Office of AHS (room 2102) on October 6, 7, and 8.

Join AHS for Under the Lights on Monday, Sept. 22

Under the Lights will be held on September 22 at 8 PM as the kick-off to Homecoming Week.  Parents and non-participating students are welcome to attend and can watch from the stands of the baseball and softball fields.  We ask non-participants to remain in stands and not be on the fields for safety reasons for both students and parent.  Thanks and hope to see you there!

College & Career Planning Night for AHS & ACHS Students and Parents
Iowa College Access Network presents Career & College Planning Night for AHS and ACHS students @ 6 pm, Tuesday, October 7 in the AHS Auditorium.  The goal of the evening College Planning Program is to equip sophomores, juniors, seniors and their parent/guardian with the knowledge to select an appropriate college and understand the admission and scholarship application process. Attendees will leave knowing how colleges review transcript information such as GPA, ACT/SAT scores and high school course selection, as well as a timeline for success.

The Ankeny Booster Club is sponsoring a Jag-Hawk Monday Night Buffalo Wild Wings Challenge.  Show your school spirit by having a great meal while raising money for our student athletes and facilities.
