We are excited to announce that Ankeny Community School District awarded students the first Seal of Biliteracy at graduation in 2020.
This award recognizes students who demonstrate an advanced level of academic proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English. This accomplishment sets them apart from most high school graduates in the United States and sets them on the pathway to being a global citizen.
An Important Piece to College and Career Readiness
The Seal is consistent with Ankeny’s definition of college and career readiness which, in part, is the state of being fully prepared for a lifetime of personal success beyond high school, regardless of pathway after graduation. Biliteracy promotes multilingual and multicultural competence which are marketable skills that prepare students for future success. It provides students with a competitive edge in the employment market as well as increased opportunities for higher education.
How Students Will Be Recognized
Upon receiving the Seal, students will be recognized in the following ways:
The Seal of Biliteracy will be affixed to the student’s diploma.
An indication will be made on the student’s transcript.
Recognition will be made for qualified students during Senior Awards Night.
