IWLA EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR – ROSANA BREWER
Ankeny, IA — The Iowa World Language Association (IWLA) is pleased to announce the 2024
IWLA Educator of the Year honor has been awarded to Rosana Brewer, a Spanish teacher at
Ankeny High School, in Ankeny, Iowa.
The Educator of the Year Award is designed to recognize teachers who exemplify the best in
teaching, who demonstrate involvement in the Iowa World Language Association, and who
provide evidence of leadership and contributions to the field of world language education. The
award presentation was held during the 2024 Iowa World Language Association Annual
Conference luncheon at the Des Moines Area Community College campus in Ankeny, Iowa on
Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Ms. Brewer was selected as the educator of the year because of her extensive career as a
language teacher who always strives to set high standards while implementing innovative
approaches in her classroom. She strives to stay up to date on new strategies and materials to
bring into her classes and took the lead on teaching with novels in her department. As a trilingual
speaker (of English, Portuguese, and Spanish), Rosana models for her students what it is like to be a
language learner.
Rosana Brewer is an outstanding world language educator. It is our privilege to honor her as a
recipient of this award.
