Engineers visit with students
On October 6th, Principles of Engineering students at Ankeny High School had the opportunity to visit with engineers from our community. These potential future engineers engaged in coordinated informational interviews with 14 professional engineers representing different types of engineering from six local companies.
The student led interviews provided insights into the engineering profession, the engineering pathway, and the company they work for. This activity helped the students to connect the content they learn in class to the everyday responsibilities of an engineer. It also was a great networking experience for the students.
Student Emma Kisgen said, “I liked getting a real-world perspective to help me navigate this potential career path. A big takeaway was the major skills required, such as communication, multitasking, and leadership that would help me decide if this was the career for me.”
Thank you to DLR Group, MODUS Engineering, Snyder & Associates, John Deere Des Moines Works, Collins Aerospace and Ruan Transportation Management Systems for partnering with us for this event.
Events such as this are an important component of our mission to ensure all ACSD students will graduate prepared for postsecondary success.
